Time To Go!

After a busy off-season in the Watson Racing shop, the 2012 season is here.  The new ride out of Port City Race Cars looks pretty sporty and a big thank you to the Race2way.ca team for the many hours.

The test session at Sunset on Sunday prior to the season opener went well.  We had a bit of an issue with the car bottoming out into turn one which made the car a little tight on entry, but we are confident we can get that fixed up for race day.

Be sure to come on out to Sunset Speedway on Sunday May 20 for the green flag at 6pm.

2011 Caps Off With a Win and Championship

For the fourth straight year, the Rival Office Solutions team ends the season as Oscaar Champions.  To cap the season off, the team picked up it's second Peterborough Speedways Autumn Colours Classic win.

The Race2way.ca Chevy went to Peterborough Speedway this weekend with the points championshiip already locked up however the team was still hungry to get a win in the second half of the season.  Qualifying heats went well on Saturday picking up a 3rd int he first round and a win in the second round of heats putting the team into the re-draw for the feature.

With the best pull in the draw, the Klotz fueled Chevy would be lined up on the pole position for the feature.  At the drop of the green, the 22 machine would get out into the lead and lead all 50 laps on their way to the win.  This would end the season with a team high of 7 feature wins, and an Oscaar record with four championships in a row.  Rob Clark still holds the record of most championships with five.

We tried 2 cameras again for this race as we did at Sunset.  However this time we only got the rear facing cam working, and none of the roof cam - but we all thank that worked out ok this time.  Thanks Dan for your help with this!

Missed by Inches at Sunset

After 2 races with engine issues, the Rival Office Solutions team was looking forward to a trouble free event at Sunset Speedway's second annual Velocity 250 weekend.  The pits were packed with cars so practice time would be at a premium.  The team made two runs at practice time and were happy with the car so we set up for the heat races.

After missing the re-draw at the last 2 races, we were determined to make the cut at this race.  The Race2way.ca Chevy was very strong in the heat races and picked a pair of wins, guaranteeing a spot in the draw as top qualifier.  Unfortunately, the draw was not as good as hoped and the team would have to start in the 12th position for the third straight race.

This race at Sunset had a series high of 28 cars attempting to make the field and would give a strong 24 cars on the grid for the feature.  At the drop of the green, the Klotz fueled 22 machine would start picking off the spots towards the front.   By lap 11 the 22 machine was up into the third spot and two laps later moved into second.  On a restart on lap 15, the 22 machine would power to the lead from the outside and hold the position for a number of restarts.  However with 3 to go, a restart would put the 49 of Clark to the outside and we raced side by side for the last three laps, only to loose the lead and the win at the line by a few inches.  although disappointing to lose the race, it was still a good run for the team.  By all accounts, it was certainly a fan favourite of a race a there was some good hard racing all through the field, especially at the front.

Tough Night at Peterborough

The Rival Office Solutions team returned to Peterborough Speedway with hopes of improving on the last race's second place finish.  After an engine failure in the Delaware Speedway race, the team called on the backup motor back into action.  The first practice session showed a problem with the oil pump as the oil pressure climbed to an unacceptable level.

We went to work removing the oil pump in hopes to find an easily resolved problem inside but after a couple of tries had to resort to a plan of just getting by for the evening.  The Race2way.ca Chevy lined up at the tail end of the first heat race just to see if we could make it to the end without issue.  We found that if we kept the engine RPM's down a little, we might be able to manage for the balance of the night.

The team went to work and made a gear adjustment and found in the second heat race that maybe we could have a pretty decent car for the feature.  We missed the re-draw for the feature putting the Klotz fueled machine deep in the field in the 12th spot on the starting grid.

At the drop of the green the 22 Port City outlaw moved up through the field.  The car was handling pretty well, although fairly tight on exit of the corner.  We eventually got up to second place to challenge the 62 of Lloyd Ritchie for the lead.  While trying to work around the 62, we clipped the front stretch retaining wall and broke the corner of the spoiler forcing the team to pit.  We were able to make it back to 6th place which was a good save from where we thought we might be at the start of the first heat race.

Thanks to the crew for all the hard work trying to get the red rocket back on track.  Also thanks to all our sponsors, fans, friends and family for the support.

Top 5 at Delaware

Thanks to the Charlie, Ed and the whole 40p team for offereing up their ride to the 22 team after an engine failure at Delaware Speedway.  The 40p team was quick to come to the rescue once they found out the power plant in the Rival Office Solutions Chevy broke something in the bottom end of the motor in the teams' second practice session.

The Race2way.ca outlaw was good in the first practice, and with a small adjustment was even better in the second practice just as the engine let go heading into turn 3.   Jumping into the South Shore Services outlaw for the last practice session wouldn't give the team a whole lot of time to adjust on the car.

With only a single round of heat races and a 5th place finish, the East Point Marina ride would miss the draw and end up starting in the 13th place for the start of the feature.

Being a 75 lap race, the plan was just to take it easy and try to be there at the end of the race.  This plan would prove to be the way to go as there was lots of racing action with quite a few cars being involved in incidents and running out of gas.

Thanks to the hard work of of the 22 and 40p teams, we were abel to pull off a 5th place finish and gain another 50 points on second place in the championship hunt.

Podium Finish at the Biederman Memorial

The 2011 Biederman Memorial at Kawartha Speedway was high on the win wish list for this season.  With a car that has been very strong at all events, hopes were high for grabbing the win this year.  Practice went well with the Rival Office Solutions outlaw, so only one session was taken.
